'Original Character Playlists’, were designed to depict an individual’s original character design, accompanied by their quintessential playlist track list, a signature, a key lyric, and an ‘album cover’ version of the character image. What started out as a personal project evolved into a series of commissions by others who wished to see their character have a deluxe playlist graphic, and a Twitter/X trend under the hashtags #wolqotd/#ocqotd (Original Character Question of the Day).

These are designed to be at-a-glance insights into the character while being a satisfying art piece with depth and interacting elements. Some likened these compositions to deluxe album inserts. Certain choices, like including recognizable UI from Spotify, were intentional to encourage recognizability and participation in the trend. When taking commissions for these pieces, I consulted clients about apparent character mood, color scheme, and even how their OC’s personality would come across in handwriting and signatures. Final touches like adding symbols or signoffs to the signatures, or visual effects to complement the characters, create additional interest and underscore personality.

For those who didn’t wish to commission but wanted to participate in the trend, I created and provided a template for use with Pixlr X(an accessible, free online design program). The original post was viewed by ~12,000 people, and 16 individuals participated off that post alone. Each subsequent post/version by others also saw thousands of views and added more participants, with interaction cascading.  All designs displayed below are made by me, for personal use or from commissions.
